It’s a well-known fact that happiness leads to better health. And keep in mind….happiness is a choice, NOT a consequence. Although we all have things in life that may bring us occasional disappointment and sadness, the trick is to consciously make the decision to find happiness again, instead of taking the road to depression.
My father passed away, very quickly and unexpectedly, in April of 2014. Understandably, my mother experienced “bad days”, where she’d cry for hours at a time. I encouraged her to cry and “let it all out” whenever she felt the need to do that, as this is an important part of the grieving process. And although it’s a healthy and necessary step, it’s important to understand that a person also depletes many nutrients while going through such an emotional upset, in particular their B vitamins. And a constant depletion of B vitamins over time can possibly lead to clinical depression. So I made my mother promise me that after every crying session she goes through, she would immediately take two Shaklee B-Complex (even if she had already taken her normal dose of vitamins only a few hours earlier, which always includes Shaklee’s B-Complex pills).
Then I encouraged her to always do one more thing before going to bed. I asked her to take out a notebook and write at least 10 things in her life that she is grateful for and/or things that bring her joy. And not just write them, but take a few minutes to re-read each one, close her eyes and actually FEEL the joy and gratitude of having them in her life, even if it causes her to experience tears of joy. And then, while thinking about and still feeling happy about all these things in her life…. fall asleep. This way, the feeling of happiness is her last emotion before dosing off to sleep! This is soooo powerful!!
