A few years ago, a friend of mine lost her son-in-law due to suicide due to extreme depression over the loss of his wife to cancer. And then, shortly later, another friend shared with me that a friend of hers just lost her 32 year old son to suicide. Although I didn’t know either one of these young men personally, every time I hear of someone who has committed suicide….my heart truly breaks!
We’ve all seen the advertisements……”take this medication for Restless Leg Syndrome” (just as an example), yet they list as many as a dozen side-effects that you might also experience while using it! This can turn into a vicious cycle…leading to more NEW symptoms and then more prescribed medications.
I thought I’d share a few thoughts on the effect too much candy has on a child. Most people look as far as “oh it’s just making my child hyper for a while”, but I’m here to tell you that when your child (or an adult) gets too much candy, or other high sugar foods and/or drinks on a regular basis, there’s much more happening than hyperactivity!
Years ago a friend called me one day and asked if I had seen her daughter (she was about 13 at the time). I said no, and she shared that her daughter had run away from home a few hours ago.
Teeth grinding, called Bruxism, has actually become quite common. Most people with this issue grind their teeth at night and over time it becomes obvious enough that their dentist will recommend wearing a night mouth guard to prevent any further harm to their teeth. I, on the other hand, found myself grinding my teeth during the day, without even realizing it. For years I wasn’t even aware I was doing it, even when it left my jaw feeling very sore. But I also didn’t notice immediately when it unexpectedly stopped!
I always thought that people just get clumsier as they get older, but I was at a health seminar a few years ago and the doctor explained it in a new light! It’s not that people get clumsier as they age, they just lose the ability to react fast enough to catch themselves when they stumble, causing them to actually fall which can lead to a broken hip, etc. This can be devastating for people who have a fear of falling especially those who have osteoporosis.
