I thought I’d share a few thoughts on the effect too much candy has on a child. Most people look as far as “oh it’s just making my child hyper for a while”, but I’m here to tell you that when your child (or an adult) gets too much candy, or other high sugar foods and/or drinks on a regular basis, there’s much more happening than hyperactivity!
A quality protein is essential for every cell in your body, for optimal health and prevention of disease. Plus, if your body is healing from anything…. whether it be surgery, a broken bone, stitches, etc., the very best thing you can do for yourself is up your intake of a quality protein….2-3 a day is known to really speed up the healing process! But a TRULY quality & safe protein supplement can be hard to find.
I had heard for some time now that if a person has allergies or sensitivities to certain foods, it can be helped and even reversed by replenishing their gut (lower intestine) with plenty of quality good bacteria in the form of a probiotic. There was a woman who was lactose intolerant for years who happened to start on Shaklee’s Vitalizer (which includes their probiotic, called Optiflora). She took it faithfully every day and about a year later she discovered she was no longer lactose intolerant! I thought this was amazing and wondered if this could be an easy answer to some people’s food sensitivities?!
Our children today are at such a disadvantage from those 100 years ago. I’m not talking about material things, I’m talking about something much more important than that…..the opportunity to grow up truly healthy. One hundred years ago, people ate food literally for nourishment, and the food that was available actually DID provide nourishment. Today, this lack of available nutrients coupled with eating so many processed foods which in turn, deplete you of even more nutrients, is causing major health issues even in our children. Things that use to be considered adult diseases are now increasing amongst our children. And believe it or not, this lack of nutrients also has a major effect on our children’s demeanor and behavior, i.e. how happy they are, how they handle a stressful situation, how much patience they have, how well they are in control of their emotions, etc. I’ve seen first hand what a positive impact a well-nourished body can have on a child. My focus is on children, because for so many years, they are truly at the mercy of their parents.
What does all this have to do with my new mission, “Helping Kids Find Their Happy Face”? I’ve seen what a negative impact this lack of nutrients has had on our children. My daughter said it to me once when she was in middle school….”I don’t know what’s wrong with the kids in school, Mom, all someone has to do is accidentally bump into someone else and they want to start a fight!” How ridiculous is that…that our children are so on edge and SO INTOLERANT of a simple accident of bumping into someone! And it gets even worse during their pre-teen and teen years, when their hormones are all out of whack! Our own family’s experience with and without supplementation is outlined in an older blog. Click HERE to read it! If you haven’t already read it, I wish you would, it would help explain why I’m so passionate about helping families realize what a difference quality, proven supplementation can make in their child’s physical and mental health.
I’m happy to discuss this in a personal one-to-one with you, either in person or if you don’t live in the the Colorado Springs, CO area, over the phone. Through a discussion of what’s happening in your family, we can figure out if there’s anything I offer which might help you. It would give me immense pleasure to help YOU “help your kid find their happy face!” Shaklee has a 100% money back guarantee on their products, so if after meeting with me, you decide to give one or two products a try (depending on the age of your child), and a month or two later if you feel like they didn’t make a difference in your child’s mood and/or behavior, then you can simply get your money back…yes, even on an empty bottle! So, why not consider giving it a try….you’ve got nothing to lose, yet so much happiness to gain!!
Every kid deserves a happy face…..so, together, let’s help your child find theirs!!!

One day when my daughter was just under 2 years old, my husband had picked her up from the babysitter’s house a couple hours before I got home from work. I arrived at home and found her running around like crazy in a big circle which went through our kitchen and around through the living room. At first I didn’t think much of it, but when she didn’t stop…..I thought to myself “what is going on here, she never acts like this”??
So…..I don’t drink soda at all, other than perhaps a couple sips of my husband’s soda while we’re enjoying popcorn at the theater, but many years ago, I’ll never forget something that happened to me. There was a business luncheon scheduled for a couple days in a row, and strangely enough, I drank the soda that came with the meal (it was a caffeinated one like Coke or Pepsi) on the first day, and then AGAIN on the 2nd day. Up till then I don’t think I had ever had a soda 2 days in a row. The odd thing was, on the 3rd day….I found myself CRAVING a soda! I mean….truly craving it!! I couldn’t believe it….it took just 2 days and I was becoming addicted. I understood that immediately and because I’ve refused to ever be addicted to anything….LOL….I purposely didn’t have a soda that 3rd day.
We live in a society that is over-fed yet under-nourished….literally. We have grocery stores filled with food, fast-food restaurants everywhere we look! So with all this food available to us, how is it that the majority of our society is literally under-nourished?! When you see people under-nourished due to starvation in other countries, it’s a very obvious condition and problem. But here in the U.S., it’s a hidden problem. Sure many people are overweight and/or obese, so there’s evidence of the over-fed issue, but even those people who are considered a good weight, are also likely under-nourished. They just have fast metabolisms that help hide any kind of real problem going on in their bodies.
