Along with the pleasures and loving moments of marriage ….. there’s also the stress of making ends meet financially and the stress of time restraints, often because both parents are working and trying to squeeze in some time to enjoy any kind of dinner together in the evenings, help kids with homework, etc, etc. So to find “enough hours in your day” the one place many of us skimp in is our diet choices, often restoring to the convenience of unhealthy fast food! The downfall is that stress, which in itself reduces vital nutrients from your body, coupled with not getting the nutrients your body needs on a daily basis from a proper diet….not only affects your physical health, but also your mental health, patience and emotional stability.

A few years ago, a friend of mine lost her son-in-law due to suicide due to extreme depression over the loss of his wife to cancer. And then, shortly later, another friend shared with me that a friend of hers just lost her 32 year old son to suicide. Although I didn’t know either one of these young men personally, every time I hear of someone who has committed suicide….my heart truly breaks!
A few years ago, a friend shared how her two kids were in a summer day camp and came home one day extremely dehydrated, to the point they needed to be brought to an ER. When the doctor asked what the kids had been doing and drinking, she told him of their activities, and that they had been drinking water and one of those common rehydration/electrolyte drinks found in stores.
We’ve all seen the advertisements……”take this medication for Restless Leg Syndrome” (just as an example), yet they list as many as a dozen side-effects that you might also experience while using it! This can turn into a vicious cycle…leading to more NEW symptoms and then more prescribed medications.
I thought I’d share a few thoughts on the effect too much candy has on a child. Most people look as far as “oh it’s just making my child hyper for a while”, but I’m here to tell you that when your child (or an adult) gets too much candy, or other high sugar foods and/or drinks on a regular basis, there’s much more happening than hyperactivity!
